Bagnoles de l'Orne

Bagnoles de l'Orne was reimagined in the 19th century by Albert Christophle, a local man, hard-working and visionary. It was then reshaped by Frank Jay Gould, son of an American billionaire, who among other things financed the Art Deco casino and the design of the lake.

Bagnoles de l'Orne is a spa and tourist town that offers a change of scenery, a journey back in time: to the Belle Époque (the Petit Bagnoles district and the Belle Époque district of Tessé la Madeleine), but also to the neo-Renaissance (the town hall of Bagnoles de l'Orne and its two-hundred-year-old arboretum with splendid sequoias).

The History of the Hotel

A hotel since 1929, run in turn by the Tuloup, David, Laurent, Désert and today Le Breton families, who have preserved the authenticity of the place, its calm and the quality of its hospitality. During the Second World War, the local Kommandantur took up quarters in the Hôtel Restaurant de Tessé. In the 1970s the 77-room hotel was restructured into 40 rooms with modern comfort. For a long time the Hôtel de Tessé estate and its many hectares of meadows boarded renowned racehorses.

The surroundings

Within 40 km, discover green tourism "made in Normandy".
To the West:
  • Domfront (20 km), a medieval town full of character. Don't miss the 11th-century church of Notre-Dame-sur-l'Eau and the neo-Byzantine church of Saint-Julien.
  • Mortain (40 km), an unspoilt natural site in the Normandie-Maine regional park. Enjoy the view of Mont Saint-Michel from Hill 314 (a major Second World War battlefield) and the waterfalls (the highest in Normandy).
To the East:
  • The Château de Carrouges (20 km) and its park invite you to stroll. It is a stop on the way to the Alpes Mancelles (40 km) and its "most beautiful village of France". And what better way to end the loop than the Mont des Avaloirs, the highest point in western France (416 metres).
